《考工记》云：知得创物，巧者述之守之，世谓之工。百工之事，皆圣人之作也。烁金以为刃，凝土以为器，作车以行陆，作舟行水，此皆圣人之所作也。天有时，地有气，材有美，工有巧，合此四者，然后可以为良。材美工巧，然而不良，则不时，不得地气也。……攻木之工：轮、舆、弓、庐、匠、车、梓；……
艺术之始，为工艺；博物之美，为工艺。自古工匠利其器，推其理，极思智手巧，治物以齐心。时光运转，变化不过天时地气，材美工巧者。今组织四人，自成组织，自建工坊，学以识，玩以趣，声色俱闻以动。合为艺术，实作工艺，考今时之工以辩今时之思。
